German family relocates from Leipzig to Golinjevo near Livno
Susanne Goepel and her family relocated from Leipzig, Germany, to the village of Golinjevo near Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina, five years ago. Originally visiting the area as tourists starting in 2018, the family eventually purchased an old stone house to serve as a permanent residence.
The decision to move permanently in 2021 was influenced by pandemic-related school closures in Germany, which prompted the family to seek a more stable environment for their children. Goepel noted that her children have since become fluent in the local language and integrated well into the community.
While the family has fully embraced life in the region, Goepel maintains professional connections to Germany, balancing local family life with remote work.
