German fans protest high beer and ticket prices in Toronto during World Cup 2026

A 47‑year‑old fan, Matts Kauer, said the price of a pint in Canada is about 10–14 CAD, compared with 6–7 CAD in Germany, and that stadium beer is around 17 CAD. An‑Marie Zeesle, president of the Bayern Munich fan club in Toronto, added that tickets themselves are “absurd”, noting she paid roughly 1,000 CAD (≈ 706 USD) for a seat.

The complaints come as Canada records one of the highest food‑price inflation rates among G7 nations, according to Reuters. Toronto bars defend the pricing, saying it is comparable to European levels and that demand is the main challenge. Fans like 61‑year‑old Heiner from Berlin plan to follow all of Germany’s matches, but find the beer price comparable to Munich’s Oktoberfest, yet about 50 % more per litre.
