German farmers demand better economic conditions and EU support

Farmers in Germany are calling for improved economic conditions and more stable political frameworks to ensure the viability of agricultural holdings. During the Agricultural Ministers' Conference (AMK) in Würzburg, approximately 500 demonstrators gathered to protest against high costs, including fertilizer and energy, as well as increasing bureaucracy.

Representatives from agricultural associations, including the Bavarian Farmers' Association (BBV), are emphasizing the need for reliable agricultural subsidies and fair competition. BBV President Günther Felßner has specifically called on state ministers to advocate for a strong EU agricultural policy and budget for the 2028–2034 period. He highlighted that family-run farms are essential for food security and requested a shift in EU policy toward economic support for these family-operated businesses.
