German farmers protest against proposed diesel and vehicle tax cuts
Farmers across Bavaria have launched protests against the German federal government's plans to abolish tax subsidies for agricultural diesel and vehicle taxes. In Augsburg, a demonstration involving approximately 50 tractors caused significant traffic disruptions and impacted public transportation.
In Munich, protesters gathered at the headquarters of the SPD, FDP, and Green parties. The Bavarian Farmers' Association (BBV) warns that these fiscal changes could impose additional costs of approximately 440 million euros for diesel and 480 million euros for vehicle taxes on the agricultural sector. Representatives argue that these measures will increase food prices for consumers and threaten the viability of regional agriculture by making it harder to compete with cheaper imports.
