German FDP slips to 3% in poll as leader Kubicki targets 10% support

The latest "Politbarometer" poll shows Germany's Free Democratic Party (FDP) at 3% support, falling below the 5% threshold needed for Bundestag entry. New party chairman Wolfgang Kubicki dismissed the setback, stating, "It is not the end, it is the beginning," and set a goal of reaching ten percent of the vote.

In the same survey, the Union (CDU/CSU) holds 25%, the AfD leads at 27%, the SPD remains at 12%, the Greens at 14%, and the Left at 11%. Kubicki also responded to Chancellor Friedrich Merz's comment that "the liberals are dead," claiming his party will prove otherwise.

Kubicki's ambition follows his recent victory over liberal challenger Marie‑Agnes Strack‑Zimmermann for the FDP leadership and reflects a push to revive the party after previous electoral failures.
