German Federal Court rules on racist chat group involving justice officials
The Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig has issued a ruling regarding two justice officials from North Rhine-Westphalia who participated in a private chat group containing racist and antisemitic content. The group, which became known in 2020, included racist images and antisemitic jokes, such as a post depicting a weapon pointed at a fleeing Black child.
As a result of the disciplinary action initiated by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, one official will be dismissed from service, while the other will be demoted. The court addressed whether such actions violate the duty of loyalty to the constitution, even when a clearly anti-constitutional mindset is not explicitly proven. One of the officials has already been convicted of incitement to hatred and the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations.
