OnlyFans faces scrutiny over human trafficking allegations

The German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) has reported isolated findings suggesting that the platform OnlyFans may be involved in human trafficking and forced prostitution. According to the BKA, perpetrators may use methods such as the ‘Loverboy’ technique or promises of lucrative jobs to pressure victims into performing sexual acts on the platform, often retaining the majority of the earnings through physical or psychological violence.

OnlyFans has denied that there is evidence of such activities occurring on its platform. The company stated it does not tolerate any form of human trafficking, coercion, or exploitation. To combat these risks, the platform has implemented protective measures including creator verification, content moderation, account monitoring, and payment processing oversight.

As the platform marks ten years of operation, the debate over creator autonomy continues. While some creators describe the work as a self-determined way to earn income, women's rights organizations, such as Terre des Femmes, warn of economic pressure, patriarchal power dynamics, and the risk of content being redistributed outside the platform without consent.
