German Federal Police conduct helicopter pilot training

The German Federal Police (Bundespolizei) is conducting specialized training exercises for helicopter pilots and flight technicians. From October 5 to October 16, 2026, the aviation group is performing training in the Bavarian Alps to prepare personnel for flying in difficult terrain conditions. This exercise involves 13 helicopters from both federal and state authorities.

Additionally, the aviation school in Sankt Augustin is conducting mandatory night flight training through approximately December 11, 2026. This training is a legal requirement for licensing and is essential for night-time operations, including searching for missing persons, pursuing criminals, and disaster relief. Residents in areas such as the Cologne Bay, North Eifel, and the Ruhrgebiet may experience increased flight noise during these sessions, which typically occur Monday through Thursday between 18:00 and 22:00.
