German festivals face heat‑related disruptions

The Niederaschauer Trachtler held their village festival on one of the hottest days of the year in Niederaschau, Bavaria. Despite the heat, the event was described as a full success, featuring traditional music, folk dances, food stalls and a backdrop of the illuminated castle. Organisers thanked sponsors, volunteers and attendees for their support.

At the same time, the Cranger Kirmes in Herne, North Rhine‑Westphalia, is confronting a severe heat wave that has raised fire‑risk warnings. The German Weather Service has issued a level‑4 forest‑fire danger alert, prompting the city’s Ordnungsamt to consider postponing the opening fireworks scheduled for 22:30 on 7 August. Officials, including Ordnungsamtsleiter Eduard Belker and Mayor Frank Dudda, are preparing a contingency plan while the fair, expected to draw around four million visitors, continues to set up rides and attractions.
