German Film Festival opens with live‑scored Metropolis in Mexico City

The 25th edition of the German Film Festival will open on 24 September 2026 at the Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris in Mexico City with a special screening of Fritz Lang’s 1927 silent classic Metropolis. The restored version will be accompanied by original live music performed by the Mexican ensemble 2Contrabajos, featuring Quique Rangel (founder of Café Tacvba) and composer Mike Sandoval, together with vocalist Denise Gutiérrez of Hello Seahorse! and MexFutura.

The event also marks the 60th anniversary of the Goethe‑Institut in Mexico and follows the festival’s curatorial theme “Futuros desobedientes,” which invites reflection on technology, power and social inequality in imagined futures.
