German Finance Minister Klingbeil Open to Subsidy Cut Proposal

German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil said he is open to the “lawn‑mower method” proposed by CDU parliamentary group leader Jens Spahn. The approach would reduce subsidies and tax concessions by applying flat percentage cuts across the board. Klingbeil made the comment on the “Machtwechsel” podcast, noting that such a method could be used at least in part as the government searches for ways to achieve budget savings.

The proposal reflects ongoing discussions within the coalition about how to trim public spending without harming core services.
