German Fuel Prices to Top €2/Litre as Tax Cut Ends and Hormuz Crisis Drives Oil Up

From 1 July, German motorists face fuel prices above €2 per litre as the temporary energy‑tax rebate expires and tensions in the Hormuz Strait push Brent crude higher. The reinstated full tax adds about 17 cents per litre, and analysts forecast Super E10 at €2.08‑€2.13, Super E5 at €2.13‑€2.18 and diesel at €2.06‑€2.11, up from current averages around €1.90.

The price surge mirrors broader European trends. In Austria, diesel hit a historic €2.20 per litre after the Iran‑related conflict affected global oil markets. Regional energy communities such as Laudachtal in Vorchdorf are highlighted as a stabilising alternative, offering flat electricity tariffs (29 cents/kWh AC, 39 cents/kWh fast‑charge) and promoting e‑mobility. "Regional energy supply is vital in times of international crises," said Christian Hummelbrunner of the KEM Traunstein region.
