German gaming delegation visits Japan to foster industry partnerships

A delegation of 17 German gaming companies visited Japan to foster strategic partnerships and explore market opportunities, coinciding with Tokyo Game Show 2026. Supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the delegation included prominent firms such as Kalypso Media Group and ROCKFISH Games.

Germany offers significant support for its gaming sector, including subsidies covering up to 50% of development costs, with a cap of 8 million euros per project. Officials noted that these incentives are also available to international companies that establish operations in Germany.

On the Japanese side, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry highlighted the importance of the content industry, aiming for 20 trillion yen in overseas sales by 2033. The gaming sector is a core component, accounting for approximately 60% of total content industry overseas sales. Both nations expressed interest in strengthening cooperation between Japanese developers and German publishers, as well as in marketing and XR technologies.
