German Green deputy leader Julia Verlinden urges heat‑protection measures after deadly European heatwave

Julia Verlinden, the Green Party’s deputy parliamentary group leader responsible for energy and climate policy, demanded that the coalition committee place heat‑protection and climate‑adaptation measures on its agenda. She criticised the chancellor for remaining silent as a recent European heatwave, which the WHO estimates caused at least 1,300 deaths, devastated the region. Verlinden called for the implementation of the climate‑adaptation task mandated by the coalition agreement, adequate financing for municipalities and the repeal of the building‑modernisation law that she says encourages oil and gas heating.
