German ham and Austrian hummus recalled over Listeria and Salmonella contamination

Grander Katenschinken GmbH has withdrawn its diced Katenschinken ham sold in Hamburg and Schleswig‑Holstein after testing revealed Listeria bacteria. The product, identified by batch numbers 0826 and best‑by dates in August 2026, poses a serious health risk, especially to the immunocompromised, pregnant women and the elderly. Consumers are advised not to eat the ham and may return it to retailers for a full refund.

Separately, the Austrian retailer SPAR has voluntarily recalled its “SPAR Natur*pur by NENI Bio‑Hummus natur 125 g” with a best‑by date of 7 July 2026. The recall follows detection of possible Salmonella in the tahini raw material used for the hummus. The single‑product batch is being removed from shelves and can be returned without a receipt for a refund. All other SPAR Natur*pur products are unaffected.

Both recalls illustrate heightened precautionary measures by food producers and retailers in response to bacterial contamination risks in consumer foods.
