German handball clubs undergo major roster and leadership changes

Major changes are underway in the German Handball-Bundesliga as top clubs undergo significant roster and leadership restructuring ahead of the new season.

Handball Club Hamburg (formerly HSV Hamburg) has rebranded with a new name, logo, and management team. Under coach Torsten Jansen, the club is integrating six new players to move away from the relegation zone. Notable changes include the departure of Jacob Lassen and Casper Ulrich Mortensen, while goalkeeper Leon Nowottny returns to the club from THW Kiel.

Defending champions SC Magdeburg are also preparing for a new season with a leadership change. Danish Olympic champion Magnus Saugstrup has been named the new captain, succeeding Christian O’Sullivan. The club is also managing several high-profile departures, including Tim Hornke, who retired, and goalkeeper Sergey Hernández, who moved to FC Barcelona. To bolster the squad, Magdeburg reportedly paid at least 500,000 euros to acquire Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Kuzmanovic.
