German health agencies issue heat and UV warnings and promote UV‑protection counseling

The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued heat and ultraviolet (UV) warnings for the Unterfranken region, defining two heat‑alert levels: strong heat when the perceived temperature exceeds about 32 °C and extreme heat above 38 °C, with additional UV alerts on days of intense solar radiation. The service advises residents to avoid outdoor activity during peak heat, stay hydrated, wear protective clothing, and seek shaded or cooled environments.

A separate German study examined the integration of UV‑protection counseling into routine sports‑medicine examinations. Among 375 adolescent athletes, about half received structured UV‑protection advice, and the approach was deemed practical and well‑accepted by the participating sports physicians. The research highlights the need for targeted UV‑risk education in outdoor sports to reduce skin‑cancer risk.

Both initiatives aim to improve public health by raising awareness of heat‑related and UV‑related hazards and encouraging preventive measures.
