German health authorities issue warnings on summer mite outbreaks

The health office of the Ansbach district in Germany has reported a rise in seasonal pests such as grass mites, oak processionary moth larvae and Zerkarien water insects. The agency advises residents to avoid known infestation zones, respect warning signs, bathe after outdoor exposure, wash clothing at 60 °C and use protective creams or antihistamines to reduce itching and skin reactions.

A separate report explains that grass mite larvae, barely visible to the naked eye, bite silently and cause red pustules and intense itching that can last weeks. Prevention tips include keeping lawns dry, using white paper sheets to detect mites, protecting pets, and applying repellents. In case of bites, medical advice is recommended, especially if swelling or infection develops. Treatments mentioned are cooling compresses, anti‑itch gels, antihistamines and, for severe reactions, topical corticosteroids.
