German health insurers ranked by customer satisfaction

A study by rating agency Servicevalue for the SZ Institut has ranked health insurance providers in Germany based on customer satisfaction across 13 different sectors. The study analyzed approximately 14,000 insured individuals' opinions regarding 116 companies, evaluating performance, service, and price on a scale of 1 to 5.

Top performers in specific categories include Hanse-Merkur for outpatient supplementary insurance, Allianz for occupational health insurance, child supplementary insurance, and long-term care supplementary insurance, and Huk-Coburg for hospital daily allowance insurance. Barmer was noted for its performance in the statutory health insurance sector.

Complementary research into consumer search behavior indicates that cost remains the primary driver for customers, with over three-quarters of inquiries focusing on contributions. Frequently sought additional benefits include professional teeth cleaning, osteopathy coverage, and expanded dental services.
