German Health Minister Nina Warken pushes to ease nursing home construction rules

The German Association of Elderly and Disability Aid (VDAB) backs Health Minister Nina Warken's proposal to cut building regulations for nursing homes. The association noted that construction costs—often €150,000 or more per fully equipped place—contribute to rising care prices, and that relaxing minimum area, single‑room and communal‑space requirements could generate savings, especially in urban areas.

VDAB also welcomed Warken's plan to make contributions to private long‑term‑care insurance tax‑deductible, arguing that private pre‑funding should grant additional benefits in the event of care need. The association warned that current reforms still exclude such extra entitlements for privately funded individuals.
