German health studies link overweight to higher cancer risk and omega‑3 to modestly lower biological age
A German research report finds that excess body weight raises the risk of developing cancer more strongly than previously estimated. The analysis suggests overweight individuals face a heightened likelihood of various cancers, underscoring the importance of weight management for disease prevention.
Another German‑led trial, part of the DO‑HEALTH study, examined adults over 70 who took a daily gram of algae‑derived omega‑3 for three years. Researchers measured epigenetic clocks and reported that participants’ biological age was on average three months younger than their chronological age. The benefit was most pronounced when omega‑3 intake was combined with adequate vitamin D, regular exercise, and resulted in fewer falls, infections and reduced frailty.
Both studies highlight lifestyle factors—weight control and specific nutrient supplementation—that may modestly influence long‑term health outcomes in older populations.
