German heat wave drives sleep‑cooling solutions

A heat wave that keeps night‑time temperatures above 20 °C across Germany is prompting consumers to seek ways to improve sleep. One product marketed for this purpose is the Ikalife Arc‑Chill 3.0 cooling blanket, sold for €34.99. The blanket uses a blend of glimmer‑nylon and cooling fibers to lower skin temperature by up to five degrees without electricity, is Oeko‑Tex certified and machine‑washable, and has been reviewed as thin but effective.

Health advice notes that the elevated night temperatures—called “tropennights” by the German Weather Service—disrupt the body’s need to drop core temperature for deep sleep, increase heart rate, and shorten restorative sleep phases. Recommendations include ventilating rooms in the early morning and evening, using fans for air circulation (but not aimed directly at the body), choosing natural‑fiber bedding and loose clothing, avoiding heavy meals, alcohol and caffeine, staying hydrated, and taking a warm shower before bed to facilitate a subsequent temperature drop.
