German heptathletes see mixed starts at European Championships

The heptathlon at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham saw mixed results for the German athletes during the first discipline, the 100m hurdles.

Sophie Weißenberg achieved a personal best with a time of 13.19 seconds, placing her eighth after the first event. In contrast, Sandrina Sprengel struggled after hitting a hurdle, narrowly avoiding a fall but finishing with a time of 14.03 seconds, which placed her 21st. Vanessa Grimm finished the discipline in 16th place with a time of 13.47 seconds.

Switzerland's Annik Kälin leads the competition with a time of 12.59 seconds, aided by a 3.3 m/s tailwind. European champion Nadine Visser follows with a time of 12.67 seconds, though she faced a 0.8 m/s headwind.
