German hiker rescued from Austria's Mondspitze after night‑time emergency
A 29‑year‑old hiker from Baden‑Württemberg, Germany, climbed the roughly 2,000‑metre‑high Mondspitze in Vorarlberg, Austria, to watch the sunset. After dark she became stranded at the summit without a flashlight and placed an emergency call at about 22:30.
Mountain‑rescue teams reached the peak just before midnight, found her at the summit cross wearing street shoes and shorts, and escorted her safely down on foot and by rescue vehicle. Police said she arrived in Austria by public transport and had started her six‑hour hike in the afternoon. The local tourism board rates the ascent as moderately difficult and advises proper footwear and warm clothing.
