German historical sites open to public for Monument Day
During the 'Tag des offenen Denkmals' (Open Monument Day), various historical sites in Germany opened to the public, including the Martinskirche in Hamburg-Horn and the library at the Domdechanei in Fulda.
In Hamburg-Horn, the Martinskirche serves as a significant historical landmark. Originally established as the Martinskapelle in 1886 to accommodate local population growth, the building was designed by architect Johannes Vollmer. It was officially renamed Martinskirche in 1894 following the addition of its characteristic church tower.
In Fulda, over 100 visitors attended guided tours of the library located in the Domdechanei. Founded in 1572, the library serves as the central diocesan library for the Bishopric of Fulda. The tours, led by Dr. Albrecht Brendler and Dr. Alessandra Sorbello Staub, highlighted the connection between historical architecture and modern research infrastructure, showcasing how the institution preserves and shares historical knowledge.
