German Holocaust Remembrance Events Scheduled for Ravensbrück Liberation and Auschwitz Roma‑Sinti Anniversary

On May 2‑4 2025, the Lagergemeinschaft Ravensbrück/Freundeskreis e.V. will hold a series of commemorations in Grüneberg, Fürstenberg, Uckermark and nearby sites to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Ravensbrück concentration camp. The programme includes a memorial ceremony, the release of a bilingual brochure about former Polish prisoners, a silent remembrance at a cemetery, the unveiling of a new “political prisoners” memorial, and public outreach booths. Organisers have issued a fundraising appeal, providing the IBAN DE47 4306 09.

On August 3 2026, the Förderverein Roma e.V. will stage a rally in Frankfurt at the former city health office to observe the 82nd anniversary of the mass murder of more than 4,000 Roma and Sinti in Auschwitz. The event follows a report noting a 24 % rise in anti‑Roma incidents and references recent harassment of Roma families by local AfD officials. The gathering aims to honour the victims and draw attention to ongoing discrimination against Roma and Sinti communities.
