German hospitality sector focuses on sustainability and digitalization

The German hospitality sector is focusing on digitalization, sustainability, and addressing labor shortages. DEHOGA Nordrhein has announced the ZukunftsForum 2026 in Düsseldorf, scheduled for September 15, 2026. The forum aims to provide small and medium-sized enterprises in North Rhine-Westphalia with practical insights into artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and sustainable management. NRW. BANK will also provide information regarding funding and financing options for digital and sustainable transitions.

In a related move toward transparency, the Greentable initiative is updating its approach to sustainability labeling in response to the EU EmpCo directive (2024/825). Rather than using a general sustainability seal, the updated Greentable concept focuses on twelve specific criteria that businesses must meet and document, such as the use of organic products and renewable energy. This shift aims to provide guests with verifiable information about a restaurant's actual environmental and social measures without creating false expectations.
