German hospitals boost cybersecurity amid rising threats

A study by IT‑security firm ESET and market‑research institute Techconsult of 165 German health‑care providers shows that hospitals are markedly increasing their cyber‑defence. Four out of five facilities already have an emergency plan for severe attacks such as ransomware, and many test these procedures regularly.

More than 85 % intend to deploy modern detection and response solutions – notably Managed Detection and Response (MDR) and Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) – within the next twelve months. Half of the surveyed institutions currently use security products from European vendors, and over 80 % are open to switching to EU‑based providers, citing data protection, compliance and trust. "The results show that cybersecurity in healthcare has long been on the strategic agenda," said Christian Lueg, IT‑security expert at ESET.
