German hospitals expand multidisciplinary fracture board and sports injury clinic

The University Hospital Erlangen has instituted a weekly “extremities board” that brings together trauma surgeons, plastic‑hand surgeons, vascular surgeons and interventional radiologists to devise joint treatment plans for complex arm and leg fractures. The board enables rapid decisions such as “fix and flap” operations, coordinated vascular reconstruction and bone fixation, aiming to lower infection risk and speed healing.

In parallel, Asklepios MVZ Harburg and the Ambulante Therapiezentrum Harburg have opened a dedicated sports‑injury consultation service for athletes aged 14 and older. Patients can book appointments under the “sports‑clinic” label for prompt assessment and treatment, with the goal of returning them quickly to training and competition.
