Algeria releases German hostage kidnapped in Niger

German national Ulumaskan Sinan has been released after being held captive for approximately two weeks by an armed criminal group in Niger.

According to the Algerian Ministry of National Defense, Sinan was received by the army's security services on the evening of August 7, 2026. He was transported via a special flight from the In Guezzam deployment base near the Nigerien border to the Boufarik military airbase near Algiers.

Officials reported that Sinan is in good health. Upon his arrival, he recounted the circumstances of his abduction and captivity. He expressed his gratitude to the Algerian military authorities and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for their efforts in ensuring his safe return. He is expected to be handed over to German authorities at a later time.
