German Hotels Face Rising Admin Load Undermining Guest Experience

Hotel staff in Germany are devoting an ever‑greater share of their workday to administrative duties such as documentation, internal coordination, reporting, quality controls and other process mandates. This shift leaves less time for direct personal contact with guests.

Experts from the personnel‑development firm diavendo, including co‑owner Steffen Schock, warn that the growing admin burden threatens the sector’s core competitive advantage. While digitalisation, quality‑management systems and standardised workflows have boosted efficiency and transparency, the reduction in personal guest moments is seen as a strategic challenge that goes beyond the broader skilled‑labour shortage.
