German industrial fires trigger emergency response in Helmstedt and Gera

A technical defect at the waste‑incineration plant near Büddenstedt in Helmstedt caused smoke to accumulate and set off the fire‑alarm system on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. No injuries were reported and extinguishing measures were unnecessary. Firefighters from Helmstedt, Schöningen, Büddenstedt, Offleben‑Reinsdorf, Esbeck, Emmerstedt and the local Helmstedt fire brigade worked for about two hours before handing the site back to the operator.

Later that week, a large blaze erupted in a car‑wash facility in Gera in the late afternoon. The fire heavily damaged the building and prompted the deployment of 35 firefighters and several fire engines. The cause of the Gera fire has not yet been determined, and no casualties were reported.

Both incidents required multi‑unit emergency responses but resulted in no injuries.
