German Insurance Association launches updated free cybersecurity check for SMEs

The Gesamtverband der Deutschen Versicherungswirtschaft (GDV) has released a revised version of its free online cybersecurity check aimed at small and medium‑sized enterprises in Germany. The tool now features a completely new design optimized for desktop, tablet and smartphone use and provides immediate feedback after each answer, highlighting specific IT security gaps and offering concrete mitigation suggestions. Users answer twelve core questions, with additional questions shown based on company turnover, and sector‑specific items are included for manufacturers. At the end of the questionnaire a downloadable PDF summarises the results and prioritises improvement measures. The previous requirement to set a password has been removed, making the check quicker and lower‑threshold.

The GDV markets the check as a practical orientation aid rather than a full technical audit, helping businesses quickly identify and organise their cybersecurity priorities.
