German Junior Swimming Championships Produce New Records in Berlin

The final day of the Deutsche Jahrgangsmeisterschaften (DJM) in Berlin saw multiple junior swimmers set personal and age‑group bests. Leonie Mau of SSV PCK 90 Schwedt broke the 16‑year‑old girls' 50 m freestyle record with a time of 25.34 seconds, surpassing the previous mark from 2003. Luisa Herrmann (2009) won the 50 m freestyle in 25.99 seconds, also a personal best, and Larus Thiel (2009) claimed gold in the same event with a new best of 22.45 seconds.

Other highlights included Wolke Manka (2010) improving to 1:05.9 in the 100 m backstroke and several swimmers posting best times in butterfly and mixed‑relay events. The strong performances position the German team well ahead of the upcoming European Junior Championships in Munich scheduled for early July.

The championships featured a total of five gold medals for the host club Bayer, with athletes such as Vivien Russ and Ilyas Bencheikh also improving their personal records despite mixed results in relay and individual races.
