German labor groups and associations push for pension reforms

In Germany, various interest groups are mobilizing regarding pension and labor policies. An alliance of self-employed associations, including the BAGSV, has issued a statement to Federal Labor Minister Bärbel Bas. They argue against implementing mandatory pension insurance for the self-employed in isolation, warning it could negatively impact entrepreneurship. The associations are calling for simultaneous reforms to the status determination process and the contribution assessment system to prevent financial overstrain, particularly for part-time entrepreneurs.

Separately, the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) has organized a nationwide day of action for September 26. Under the slogan ‘Hard earned! Your work. Your health. Your pension.’, demonstrations are scheduled in 15 major cities, including Berlin, Hamburg, and Frankfurt. The events aim to address labor rights, health, and retirement security, featuring speakers from various major unions such as IG Metall and ver.di.
