German Local Authorities Approve New School Buildings

The city of Bad Bentheim in North Rhine‑Westphalia is expanding the Gildehauser Grundschule with a new annex built behind the existing fence.

In the neighboring district of Volkmarsen, the county council has approved a €14.5 million project to replace the aging Kugelsburgschule. After a nationwide competition, the design by the Paderborn firm architektur werk stadt was selected. The plan calls for a three‑storey wooden structure with 19 classrooms, a photovoltaic roof, and floor‑heating that can also provide summer cooling. Construction is expected to begin in early 2028 following a two‑year building period.

Both projects are funded by local government budgets and aim to address structural deficiencies and modernise teaching facilities for the region’s students.
