German Local Pools Face Opening Delays and Seasonal Launches
The Babenhausen outdoor swimming pool (Freibad Babenhausen) will open its 2026 season on 23 May with a traditional ceremony, free coffee and pretzels for early swimmers, and a city‑wide volunteer‑recognition day. The city expects warm weather of up to 28 °C and invites local clubs to participate in the "Ehrentag" celebrations, while a pre‑opening ticket sale runs on 22 May.
In contrast, Berlin’s Kombibad Spandau Süd remains closed beyond the planned timetable. A legal objection to the awarding of renovation contracts has delayed the start of work, pushing any possible reopening beyond the 2027 bathing season. The procurement board’s decision has been postponed repeatedly, with the next ruling expected in mid‑September, meaning the planned one‑year construction phase cannot begin in time for the summer season.
