German low‑voltage grid near overload during Pentecost 2026

The energy‑storage firm E3/DC examined the performance of Germany’s low‑voltage distribution network during the Pentecost weekend of 2026. Hourly voltage measurements were taken from about 110,000 household connections equipped with photovoltaic (PV) panels and home batteries.

At the peak of solar generation around midday, roughly 80 % of the observed connections stayed within the statutory voltage band of 207‑253 V. Only 0.15 % exceeded the upper limit of 253 V, while around 18 % entered a warning zone close to the threshold. Early‑morning readings showed virtually no over‑voltage cases. The study, which focused solely on households with both PV and storage, warns that brief, localized overloads can occur on sunny holidays when solar feed‑in is high and overall electricity demand is low. It suggests that continued monitoring and possible grid reinforcement may be needed to accommodate growing residential solar installations.
