German mathematicians win international IGP24 competition

Inverse Galois Problem 24 mathematics competition artificial intelligence algebra SAIR Foundation

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Klüners of the University of Paderborn and Prof. Dr. Gunter Malle of RPTU Kaiserslautern have won the international IGP24 competition organized by the Foundation for Science and AI Research (SAIR).

The competition focused on the Inverse Galois Problem for degree 24, a complex algebraic challenge. While the competition was designed to encourage researchers to solve mathematical problems in collaboration with artificial intelligence, the German team won without using AI for their calculations, using the technology only for the submission of their results.

The competition featured organizers and board members including Fields Medalist Terence Tao, Nobel laureate Barry Barish, and Turing Award winners Jeffrey Ullman and Richard Sutton.
