German medical guidelines updated for recurrent miscarriage treatment

The German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics (DGGG) has updated its S2k guideline regarding the diagnosis and therapy of women experiencing recurrent spontaneous abortions. The update aims to provide a structured, evidence-based, and individualized framework for care to alleviate the physical and psychological burden on affected couples.

While the World Health Organization (WHO) defines recurrent spontaneous abortions as three or more consecutive miscarriages, the updated guidelines state that comprehensive diagnostic investigations may be beneficial after only two miscarriages. The decision for further diagnostics should be made individually, taking into account the woman's age and the couple's overall reproductive medical situation. The goal is to identify relevant causes through meaningful assessment while avoiding unnecessary examinations.
