German military jet grounded in Seychelles after technical issue

A German Bundeswehr Bombardier Global 5000 jet is currently grounded in the Seychelles following an unscheduled landing on August 11. The German Ministry of Defense stated that the aircraft was conducting a training mission from Egypt to the French island of Réunion when a technical problem necessitated the stop in the Seychelles.

The training mission was intended to practice flight operations under extreme tropical climatic conditions, including maneuvers in uncontrolled airspace and high temperatures. The Ministry clarified that no government officials were on board, only the flight crew, who are reported to be safe.

The incident has drawn political scrutiny. Hans-Georg Maaßen, a member of the AfD, expressed public skepticism regarding the official explanation on social media. Critics have raised questions concerning the transparency of the mission and the high costs associated with the long-distance training flight.
