German mobility projects receive recognition for improved connectivity
The German Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building (BMWSB) and the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) have honored 20 projects in the competition ‘Designing Connections. Mobile in Rural Areas’. The award ceremony, held in Bonn, recognized initiatives that improve synchronization between buses and regional trains, implement on-demand services, and enhance infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists.
Each winning project received 5,000 euros. These solutions aim to provide viable alternatives to private car ownership in rural regions by addressing the ‘last mile’ challenge through mobility stations that bundle bus, rail, cycling, carsharing, and park-and-ride options.
In a separate development, Rüsselsheimer Mobilität, a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Rüsselsheim, reported a significant increase in passenger satisfaction according to the 2026 Kantar Public Transport Customer Barometer. While the company was noted for having one of the most significant improvements among 45 participating transport providers, the survey also identified areas for growth, specifically regarding passenger information during service disruptions and the quality of facilities at transit stops.
