German MP supports recognition of Palestinian state

Masit Karamataug, a member of the German Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, has expressed support for reintroducing the recognition of the State of Palestine onto Germany's political agenda. This follows a meeting between Karamataug and the Palestinian Ambassador to Germany, Laith Arafa.

During the meeting, Ambassador Arafa briefed the German official on the escalating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, highlighting issues such as settlement expansion and land annexation. Arafa emphasized that German recognition would serve as a significant political step toward supporting a two-state solution and maintaining peace prospects.

Karamataug stated his explicit support for Palestinian efforts to push Berlin toward recognition, noting that many countries, including several in Europe, already recognize Palestine as a sovereign state. He suggested that German recognition could act as an effective lever for the two-state solution rather than being merely the final result of a long political process.
