German municipal utilities earn national energy awards

The Smart District Jena‑Lobeda was nominated as a finalist for the Stadtwerke Award 2026, one of six projects selected from across Germany. The district’s integrated approach combines energy‑efficient building renovations, intelligent heating control that cut heating consumption by about 30 %, digital services such as tele‑medicine rooms and smart‑city infrastructure. Public voting for the award remains open until 13 July 2026.

Stadtwerke Dessau received the Energiewende Award 2026 in the “Strom” (electricity) category at the Europe‑wide “The smarter E Europe” platform. The prize recognised the utility’s extensive renewable‑energy portfolio, including twelve large photovoltaic installations, a major public charging network of 50 points, and a climate‑neutral heat‑transformation plan targeting full decarbonisation of district heating by 2045. Both awards highlight the role of municipal utilities in advancing Germany’s energy transition through innovative services and sustainable infrastructure.
