German municipalities boost tree planting and enforce new tree‑protection rulings

The Verbandsgemeinde Wörrstadt announced that applications for its climate‑adaptation tree‑ and shrub‑planting programme are open until 15 September. Eligible applicants can receive up to €300 per request, with distribution scheduled for November. The scheme also funds related measures such as greening carports, rain‑water retention, façade planting and the removal of impermeable surfaces to improve the local micro‑climate and reduce heat‑stress and storm‑water impacts.

In Munich, the Bavarian Administrative Court (VGH) issued an urgent ruling on 13 November 2025 concerning the Lindenschmitstraße development. City council members have asked the building authority to revoke the existing building permit and to develop an updated permit practice that fully respects the tree‑protection ordinance and § 34 BauGB. All pending construction applications involving tree felling are to be reassessed in light of the court’s decision, aiming to preserve urban trees and comply with the new legal standards.
