German municipalities call for volunteer award nominations

Municipalities in Germany are calling for nominations for upcoming volunteer recognition awards.

In Gelnhausen, the city has reopened applications for the CIVICUM Citizen Prize. The award recognizes individuals and groups dedicated to the public good, including work in rescue organizations, social projects for the elderly or refugees, environmental protection, and democracy. Winners in three categories will each receive 500 euros. Nominations must be submitted by October 31, 2026, and candidates must be residents or organizations based in Gelnhausen.

Similarly, the municipality of Nordkirchen is accepting suggestions for its 2027 Volunteer Award. This biennial award, supported by Sparkasse Westmünsterland and Marmor Schwarz, honors selfless service within the community. Nominations for individuals or groups can be submitted informally via mail or email to family representative Klara Döbbelin-Südfeld until November 15. The next award ceremony is scheduled for January 24 during a New Year's reception.
