German municipalities expand cycling infrastructure in Warendorf and Schweinfurt

Municipalities in Germany are implementing new cycling infrastructure to improve safety and connectivity. In Warendorf, a new 300-meter, 2.5-meter-wide pedestrian and cycle path has been completed on Milter Straße. This project closes a gap in the main cycling network between the Milter Straße roundabout and Im Leinenfeld, providing a safer route for cyclists coming from Milte. The project included barrier-free upgrades to roundabout crossings and the construction of a roadside stop with a waiting shelter and bicycle racks. The measure was 90% funded by the 'Stadt und Land' program.

In Schweinfurt, the Construction and Environment Committee has unanimously approved the installation of bilateral cycle lanes on Franz-Schubert-Straße. This area serves 620 to 680 cyclists daily. The decision addresses issues with narrow, damaged existing paths and increasing traffic from new local developments. The new lanes aim to improve visibility, reduce conflicts with parked vehicles, and provide more space for pedestrians. To accommodate these lanes, parking will be restricted to the east side of the street.
