German municipalities face citizen opposition to wind energy projects
Local governments in Germany are facing significant citizen opposition regarding wind energy projects. In Wadersloh, the municipal council has cleared the way for a referendum following a successful citizen initiative. The initiative, which gathered 1,964 valid signatures, opposes the commencement of urban planning for three wind turbines proposed by the company ProWind near Herzebrockweg.
In Bergneustadt, political factions including the UWG and AfD are demanding a restart of an ongoing citizen survey regarding wind power at Beulberg. The groups have issued open letters to Mayor Matthias Thul, claiming that the current information provided by the city and district is one-sided and lacks a transparent comparison of the advantages and disadvantages, specifically regarding the impact on nature and local residents.
