German municipalities focus on bridging digital innovation and administration

Efforts to modernize German municipal administration are focusing on bridging the gap between digital innovation and daily bureaucratic practice. In Bad Soden-Salmünster, the inaugural ‘Test & Taste’ event brought together decision-makers from eleven different administrations and four start-ups to facilitate direct exchange and discuss practical technological solutions.

A survey of 62 municipal digitalization practitioners highlights that organizational resistance, complex responsibilities, and a lack of process control are greater obstacles to digital progress than financial constraints. The findings suggest that the greatest potential for improving quality of life through digitalization lies in addressing friction points between innovation and routine administrative workflows, particularly in cross-departmental processes.
