German municipalities implement biodiversity and climate-resilient greenery projects

The city of Viernheim is beginning a project to replant a roundabout at the intersection of Industriestraße and L3111. Starting November 2, the city will install climate-adapted perennials designed to withstand heat and drought while providing food sources for insects and wild bees. The project, costing approximately 48,000 euros, follows a successful similar initiative implemented in 2023. The work is being carried out in partnership with the landscaping company “flower your place”.

In Leimen, the municipality is participating in the NABU “Natur nah dran” project to transform existing green spaces into near-natural habitats. Three specific locations, including the Stralsunder Ring roundabout and the Quittenpfad in St. Ilgen, are being redesigned to support local biodiversity. These areas will utilize native wild plants and lean soil to create essential habitats for butterflies, wild bees, and other insects.
